The ship herself is the only survivor from a period of rapid,but poorly documented,changes in ship design and construction.In fact,she was one of the first examples of the classic sailing warship that made possible the great age of European expansion. Her sinking in 1545 was both sudden and unexpected,and as a result everything within the hull was trapped and preserved - not only ship fittings,guns and weaponry,but personal objects like clothes,jewellery,books and even a barber-surgeon's medical kit.All these items were in everyday use,and this makes the ship a perfect 'time capsule' of ordinary Tudor life.
